About Us……..

Tucked away in the Alaskan community of Palmer is a family-oriented hair salon called B Bella Hair Design.  Our stylists have been working and building relationships with their clients for over 20 years.  B Bella itself was opened for business on February 1, 2006 in the historic district of Palmer by Betty Pierce, a lifelong Alaskan.  Originally a two-chair salon with just one stylist, Betty got tired of working alone so when a larger space became available in the centrally-located Koslosky’s Building, she decided to move her business.  Her brother Dan designed and built both salons and likes to say he did two salons for Betty in less than a year.  She says she keeps him busy!

B Bella opened at its current location on January 17, 2007.  Beginning with three chairs and two stylists, the business grew rapidly and soon more stylists (and a fourth chair) were added.  It seemed that each stylist arrived at just the right time.  Today Maud Martorell, Sarah (Smith) Edgerton, Christina White, Shelly Ivey and Barbara McDonough work with Betty to complete the B Bella staff of six stylists.  Together they bring a wealth of experience, business ideas and a sense of humor and fun to the salon.  In addition to the stylists, Janet Aslin (Betty’s sister) mans the front desk, making appointments and helping with clean-up, etc.  B Bella is open for business seven days a week and we welcome walk-ins.

Every month B Bella features the work of a local artist which is on display at the shop, giving us a rotating art exhibit.  A reception is held to introduce the art of the month on the first Friday of the month between 6:30 and 7:30 in the evening.  The salon is a member of the Palmer Chamber of Commerce and is active in community events.  For the past two summers we have entered a float in the Alaska State Fair parade in August.  Christmas 2008, Leslie made and entered a gingerbread house, fashioned as a replica of the salon, in the business contest at Colony Christmas.  Her efforts won first prize for B Bella!

November 2007 Betty was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Three weeks later she had a bi-lateral mastectomy with chemo and radiation to follow.  Support poured out from clients, hairdressers, and the Mat-Valley in general.  She continued to work through her treatments, encouraged by her family, co-workers and clients.  Today she is cancer-free and often shares with, or just listens to, women who are fighting the same battle.

B Bella Hair Design is a positive place to come and get your hair done and your spirits lifted.  We all want you to feel a warm welcome and be part of our community.  The vision Betty had years ago is coming to pass.
